Joel Ellis, Great Lakes Artist, through his own artistic expression, defines the unique surroundings of beloved natural places including the magnificent Great Lakes Region. New interpretations of the natural world are an extension of Joel's work. Paintings by Joel Ellis are currently displayed throughout the country in galleries, homes and businesses and now in France and the UK. Trained at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Joel taught many years for Michigan schools culminating his career as an educator at the daVinci Institute for high school students in Jackson, Michigan.

Recent 2010 Highlights of Joel Ellis Art include 50th Greater Michigan Art Exhibition art award and the Governor's Residence Michigan Artists Program 2010/2011

Joel was awarded Best in Show in the presitigious 2004 Michigan Education Association exhibition of art educators. Several Featured Artist showings have followed including Shiawassee Art Center in Owosso, Michigan, Hope Borbas Library Gallery in Okemos, Michigan, Lansing Area Arts Connection at Mid-Michigan Physicians Building in Lansing, East Lansing Public Library gallery, and Arts for the Spirit programs Oakwood Healthcare System Dearbon, Michigan. Joel Ellis paintings were included at Clark Hill Law Firm in Old Town, Lansing where all exhibitors were juried by Roy Saper of the national award winning Saper Gallery in East Lansing, Michigan. In 2006, Joel Ellis donated his 30 x 40 oil titled, Superior Forest to the The Nature Conservancy of Mid-Michigan which sold on e-bay auction for over $1,000.
